Acid Dyes

Acid dyes are water soluble anionic dyes that are applied to fibers such as silk, wool, nylon and modified acrylic fibers, They are effective in dyeing the synthetic fiber nylon, In textiles, acid dyes are effective on animal hair fibers like wool, silk. In polishing during microscopic examination for diagnosis or research, acid dyes are used to color basic tissue proteins.

Another name for Direct Dyes is Substantive dyes which are usually economical and easily applied, and they can yield bright colors. Direct dye used in a process in which dye molecules are attracted by physical forces at the molecular level to the textile. Higher the substantive force greater the attraction of the dyes for the fiber. Textile with high percentage of fibrous cellulose and are set in a slightly basic or neutral environment at high temperatures close to boiling point direct dyes are much effective.
